It was 400 years ago that grape vines were planted in Bear River by Louis Hébert —the first viniculture in North America.
In honour of the historical event, 400th anniversary celebrations entitled ‘First Vines’ are being hosted by Bear River Historical Society in conjunction with the Bear River Board of Trade and the 400th Anniversary Committee.
Committee chair Simone Wilson said the idea for the celebration grew out of conversations a number of years ago about the historical vine planting.
